Todd Delahunt – Delahunt Homes – invited us to photograph a few of his custom homes over the summer. The first was a two story south of Portland, Oregon. It was increadible; custom mill work throughout the house, built in pool, built in bocci ball court, granite, sliding book cases, outdoor kitchen, heated patio, two garages, beautiful built-in shelving and cabinetry, the list goes on.
Being hands-on with this level of craftsmanship is always exciting and challenging. It’s exciting to see the final product of so many different trades all focused on the same vision. It’s challenging because we feel the pressure to show off the work of so many people.
We were at this site for a few hours; arriving in late afternoon and shooting through sunset. Doing the shoot like this enables us to get the exterior as the light transitions into evening. There’s a magical window of time when the lights in and around the house balance with the outdoor ambient. This brief moment is when the property will sing; the interior is visible and looks warm and inviting, while the exterior will reveal it’s various textures and lines. It’s always a beautiful moment and worth capturing.
