Have you ever tasted something so great that you couldn’t help but let out a big sigh of absolute bliss? Well that is exactly what all of the items created by Pacific Perks will make you do.

Pacific Perks is a mobile catering service that travels to their client’s location, sets up a prep station, and then prepares food and beverages to order. After using stock imagery for the past eight years, they decided to take their marketing to the next level and invest in high quality custom imagery. The photos we created will be used across their web display, social media, and other marketing efforts. (More below images)

The majority of the efforts for this shoot went towards styling the food. After we set up our gear we spent the day collaborating with the Pacific Perks team to create the best look for each food item.

Because of all the food prep involved, we went to Pacific Perks and set up a small studio in their warehouse. A seamless white background was set up on a pair of sawhorses and plywood. We utilized our 70-200mm f/2.8 L series lens and shot at a moderate aperture to create a nice focal plane fall-off for deep scenes. We also used two off camera flashes and 2×3′ soft boxes. One light was pointed at the ceiling to create a nice, even fill. The second, our key light, was behind the subject to camera right. Positioning the light behind the subject brought out the texture in each food item.

We learned a few new food photography tricks along the way and the images came out fantastic. All-in-all, our shoot with Pacific Perks was one of the most fun, and most rewarding we’ve done all year.

We would again like to extend a big thank you to Natalie and the Pacific Perks team.
